What's on @Thespo

Hey folks!

It’s been three whole months since we updated you about the new team that joined us at Thespo. Since then, we have been planning for an exciting and eventful year ahead! We had our First Call on the 17th of July. Then we had two TYLD shows of ‘The Light Catcher’, performed by the brilliant Ritika Shrotri and her team, on 13th and 14th August.

In the coming days, young artists under 25, will be performing at the digital solo storytelling event at ‘Thespo Tapri’! Yes, we are back with a brand new edition of Tapri! Registrations for this season of Tapri have closed, but registrations for Flagship Performances at Thespo 23 ‘Dil Fully Dramatic’ Festival and Audio-torium are still on!

Here is a little detailed recap of the past and upcoming events happening in Thespo:

The First Call

The First Call (TFC) was an evening full of fun, live performances, conversation about all things theatre, and a chance for young people to know how to be part of Thespo. This year, the TFC happened on the 17th July 2021 and it was a ‘Dil Fully Dramatic’ event! There were almost 300 people who attended the event, we had a skit performed by Meghana AT, Mihika Miranda and Tishya Jain, conversations with Rititika Shrotri and Nipun Dharamadhikari, and live Mandala artwork by the talented MS Shivani! Curiosity killed the cat, but our fellow artistic felines were still eager to jump in the pool of creativity and create something for the first time in the digital medium!

We also had some dhamaal time with students from UPG College in Mumbai. There are still more college TFCs lined up so keep an eye out for the same.  If you want Thespo to conduct a TFC at your college, reach out to us at theatre@thespo.org

The Light Catcher
@ Thespo: Young Live Digital

Thespo 22 Flagship Performance - The Light Catcher (1).JPG

On the independence day weekend, a story of female photographer and her work, told by an enigmatic young artist, Ritika Shrotri. Sounds interesting, no? Theatron’s ‘The Light Catcher’ was showcased under Thespo: Young Live Digital initiative

The Light Catcher is an account of a female photographer's search for feminine beauty all over the world. While it is so, it is also a foray into the world of an artist, where art, its subjects, and the surrounding social perspectives collide to produce more shades of grey than the artist herself imagined.

The Light Catcher received 2 awards at T22: Outstanding Show Management and the Pearl Padamsee Award for Outstanding Actor (Female). Apart from this, they were also nominated for the Deryck Jeffreis Award for Outstanding Production Design and the Sultan Padamsee Award for Outstanding Production.
